Abstract

Listening is one of the most challenging language skills for EFL learners, particularly in selective listening activities that require students to identify specific information from spoken texts. To address this issue, interactive digital media such as Educaplay can provide engaging learning experiences and support listening comprehension. This study aimed to explore the benefits experienced by eighth-grade students when using Educaplay in selective listening activities. A qualitative case study design was employed involving 39 students from an eighth-grade class at a junior high school in Kuningan Regency, West Java. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, student reflections, and field notes. The data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns related to students’ engagement, perceived benefits, and challenges encountered during the implementation of Educaplay. The findings revealed that Educaplay increased students’ engagement, motivation, confidence, vocabulary development, and selective listening abilities. The interactive and game-based features encouraged active participation and created a more enjoyable learning environment. Students also reported improvements in identifying specific information from spoken texts and developing greater awareness of time management and critical thinking. Despite challenges related to internet connectivity, audio comprehension, and device limitations, students generally responded positively to the learning activities. The study concludes that Educaplay can serve as an effective interactive learning medium for supporting selective listening instruction in EFL classrooms.
