The Application of Audiovisual Media in English Language Learning: Vocabulary Mastery and Learning Motivation Level
Abstract
Vocabulary mastery and learning motivation are important aspects of English language learning, as limited vocabulary can hinder students' ability to understand and use the language. However, learning that focuses primarily on textbook exercises can make students less interested and cause difficulty in remembering vocabulary. This study aims to determine the effect of applying audiovisual media in supporting vocabulary mastery and learning motivation among grade XI.1 students at SMAN 1 Mowewe. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. Data were obtained through a vocabulary test and a motivation questionnaire based on the four ARCS dimensions. The results showed that students' average scores increased from 50.35 on the pre-test to 64.99 on the post-test, a difference of 14.63 points. The paired-samples t-test showed a significant difference (p = 0.001), while learning motivation reached 79.57%, falling into the high category. Thus, audiovisual media can serve as a supporting medium in English vocabulary learning.
